Free Program Feb. 19 for Parents of College-Bound Students

“The Next Big Step,” a free informational seminar for parents of college-bound students, will look at important financial, academic and career-related considerations facing students and their parents.

The seminar takes place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Muskegon Community College’s Blue and Gold Room. The program is free of charge, but participants must pre-register. Interested parents can register online at www.muskegoncc.edu/bigstep or call (231) 777-0366 to reserve a spot.

Parents of all college-bound students, whether they are considering attending a community college or university, can maximize their children’s educational experience by knowing the many options available to them.

Among the topics being discussed are:

•                    The best ways to get grants, scholarships, and other forms of financial aid

•                    The return on investment – earning 22% more on average – with an associate’s degree

•                    How to compare tuition rates and understand the true cost of college attendance.

•                    The different types of degrees and certificates and how credits transfer
