In the play, Everyman is summoned by Death and told that it is his time to go. He pleads Death to grant him one more day, but, as Death is inevitable, it does not agree with Everyman and reminds him that it comes for all human beings in their own turn so none can make any delay. Then Everyman tries to seek the companionship of one who will travel with him. He asks Fellowship, Family, Riches, Beauty, Knowledge, and others, to accompany him on this journey. But alas, no one will go with him. However, he comes to realize the inevitable companion that will accompany him on this journey.
