MCC Dedicates Nelson Mandela Portrait

A portrait of Nelson Mandela, created at Muskegon Community College, will be unveiled and permanently displayed on the Craig Brown Diversity Wall at MCC during ceremonies on Wednesday, April 16.

The dedication begins at 12:15 p.m. in Gerber Lounge, where MCC instructors Kurt Troutman and Nicholas Budimir will offer brief remarks and a video retrospective of Mandela’s life will be shown.

The ceremony will then move downstairs to the Craig Brown Diversity Wall, located between Rooms 242 and 246. The 18-inch by 25-inch Mandela portrait will be formally added to the artwork featuring remarkable individuals of varied ethnic, cultural, and racial backgrounds who have advanced the cause of diversity, justice, and freedom in our country and around the world.

A small reception in Room 242 will follow. The event is being organized by the MCC Social Sciences Department and the Diversity Committee. For more information, contact the Social Sciences Office at (231) 777-0380.
