MCC Student Art and Design Exhibition Awards Reception

Award winners chosen from entries in the 50th Annual Juried Muskegon Community College Student Art and Design Exhibition will be announced during a special reception on Thursday evening, June 5, on campus.

Free and open to the public, a reception takes place from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Overbrook Lobby and Gallery. Light refreshments will be served. The awards will be announced at 5:30 p.m. in Overbrook Theater.

The exhibition, which opened in May and continues until Sept. 10, contains work selected by art and design faculty who reviewed several thousand pieces produced during the 2013-14 academic year by more than 500 students.

Cash awards will be presented, including $400 for first place, $300 for second place, $200 for third place, and $100 for honorable mentions. In addition, the President’s Purchase Awards for the permanent MCC Art Collection will be announced.

Place awards are selected by an independent juror who is a practicing art professional. This year, Ed Wong-Ligda, coordinator of Illustration at Grand Valley State University, will be the juror. He has a MFA degree in painting from the University of Tulsa and has worked as a designer/illustrator for Cheshire Books, Dell Publishing and Van Nostrand Reinhold. He is currently a figurative painter and muralist with work in many private and public collections including the Grand Rapids Community Foundation, Appalachian State University, the State of Oregon and the State of Missouri.
