Teen Tour Manufacturing Plants Sturrus Tech Center

On October 24, 2023, four manufacturing companies teamed up with Muskegon Community College (MCC) and the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center to offer an event called “Discover Manufacturing.” Eagle Alloy, Rolar Products, ADAC, Scherdel, and MCC’s Sturrus Technology Center all opened their doors to over 150 teens.

The students from Orchard View, Muskegon Heights, Muskegon, and Fruitport high schools along with students from the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center toured the manufacturing plants, gained insight into the companies’ daily operations, and learned about the benefits of a technical career after graduation.

The students enjoyed pizza together at the downtown Sturrus Technology Center and learned more about how degree and certificate programs tie into potential careers and competitive wages in manufacturing and beyond.

Today’s event was in coordination with the larger Discover Manufacturing month put on by Michigan Works and the Discover Manufacturing Team.

Muskegon Community College offers over 80 degrees and certificates including many in applied technology areas like welding, engineering, and manufacturing technology. In addition, the college provides a variety of community resources including a planetarium, natural area, science museum, health and wellness center, art gallery, and golf course.
