Two sisters, both who attended Muskegon Community College (MCC) and both who served in the United States Military, will deliver the keynote speech at MCC’s Veterans Salute on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Health and Wellness Center on the college’s main campus at 221 S. Quarterline Road in Muskegon. Veterans, their families, and other members of the public are invited to attend.
Siblings Diana Aue, who served in the U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Army Veteran Loraine Rodriguez, will thank other veterans in attendance and share what service means to them during their joint presentation. Aue served from 1995 to 2004 and was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. She is currently pursuing her Graphic Design Entrepreneur associate degree in applied science at MCC. Rodriguez served from 2004 to 2013 and was deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. She graduated from Muskegon Community College in Bookkeeping Service Entrepreneur and Graphic Design Entrepreneur in May 2023.
The Muskegon Community College ceremony will include an Honor Guard and Rifle Salute by the American Legion Post 9, and the laying of wreaths by the Muskegon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Captain Thomas Taber Chapter of the Colonial Dames XVII Century. U.S. Army veteran Jerry Conrad will emcee and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. MCC Board Trustee and U.S. Air Force Veteran Nancy Frye will share a reflection and MCC Director of Music and Arts and Humanities Department Chair Dan Meyers will play Taps.
Jeff Johnston, MCC faculty, will close out the event with a bagpipe musical tribute.
