Muskegon Community College’s Overbrook Theater hosts the MCC Wind and Jazz Ensembles on Wednesday night, Oct. 24, and the MCC College Singers, along with guests, The Muskegon Chamber Choir, on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 28. The concerts are free and open to the public.
The Wind Ensemble, conducted by MCC Instructor Daniel M. Meyers, will open Wednesday’s performance at 7 p.m. with “The Klaxon” by Henry Fillmore and “The Sussex Mummers Christmas Carol” by Percy Grainger. The ensemble will continue with “American Spectacular” by Gustav Holst and “Sleepers Awake” by Johann Sebastian Bach, before concluding with “Flashing Winds” by Jan Van der Roost.
The MCC Jazz Ensemble, conducted by Tim Froncek, will follow with three selections. The group will perform “Grove Broker” by Andy Farber, a Mark Taylor arrangement of Lee Morgan’s “Sidewinder” and “Mambo Loops” by Ray Ortiz.
On Sunday at 3 p.m., the College Singers, directed by Thomas Clark, will perform “An American Tapestry, Music from the Heartland.” Dr. Solee Lee-Clark is the accompanist. Joining the College Singers will be The Muskegon Chamber Choir, under the direction of David Wikman.
Also on Sunday, Oct. 28, the West Michigan Concert Winds, directed by Gail Brechting, and the Benton Harbor’s Southshore Concert Band, directed by Dale Reuss, will present “A Halloween Spook-tacular” at Reeths-Puffer Rocket Centre.
