Wind, Jazz Ensembles Perform Dec. 7

The Muskegon Community College Wind and Jazz Ensembles will present their winter concert on Wednesday, Dec. 7, in the Overbrook Theater. The program, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7 p.m.

The Wind Ensemble, conducted Daniel M. Meyers, opens with “At Dawn They Slept,” by Jay Bocook. The group will then perform the “Celtic Carol”,” arranged by Robert W. Smith, and “Coventry Carol/Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” before finishing with “Chester” by William Schuman.

Following intermission, the Jazz Ensemble, directed by Tim Froncek, leads off with two Duke Ellington melodies as arranged by Frank Mantooth –  “’C’ Jam Blues” and “In a Mellow Tone.” The ensemble will then play Grant Greeen’s “Comin’ Home Baby” before closing with another Ellington selection, “Caravan.”
