The Jayhawk Softball team traveled to face Mid Michigan College and ended up with a split. They dropped the opener by a score of 6-2 before bouncing back for 10-2 5 inning victory in game 2.
Hannah Aldred (Grand Haven) was the pitcher of record in the opener. MCC managed only 5 hits; Brooklyn Galdeen (Oakridge), Olive Staal (Fruitport) and Rachel Romero (Hesperia) all contributed a double and Aldred and Jasmine Pastor (Oakridge) added singles.
In game 2 it was Lilli Goodrich (Ludington) on the mound. She finished with 6 strikeouts and only gave up 4 hits in her 5 innings of work. MCC racked up 12 hits led by Olive Staal (Fruitport) who was a perfect 3-3 at the plate including a double. Rachel Romero was 2-2 including a home run, Andrea Romero (Oakridge) was 2-3 and Illeana Hatcher (Whitehall) was 2 for 4.
The Jayhawks are now 5-1 in conference play and 10-8 overall. They will wrap up the season series with Mid Michigan on Sunday, 4/7 with a doubleheader at home starting at 1:00 pm.
