The Muskegon Community College Women’s Basketball team defeated the Delta College Pioneers 81-61.
MCC jumped out to an early 12-0 lead, but the Pioneers stormed back to pull close at the end of the first quarter with MCC holding a 16-13 lead. Delta used their defensive pressure early in the second quarter to take the lead, but MCC was able to execute their offense and at half time MCC held a 41-23 lead. Delta continued their defensive pressure, however MCC continued to hold a comanding lead and at the end of three quarters it was 67-43, as they cruised to the final 81-61 score.
Nia Miskel (Muskegon HS) led the Jayhawks with 20 points and Tanae Hamer (Hudsonville HS) was close behind with 18 points. Kacy Jeffries (Whitehall HS) and Mariah Pringle (Brethren HS) each had 14 points in the win.
“I’m very proud of how we responded to a tough and physical team today,” said Head Coach Jason Cooper. “We’ve improved tremendously from the first time played them.”
The Jayhawks are now 11-2 overall and still 7-0 in conference play. They finish the regular season with a home game against rival Grand Rapids Community College on Thursday, 4/1 at 5:30 pm. MCC is not allowing fans but the game can be viewed live on MCC TV.
