Master Dance Hip Hop Workshop Here Feb. 16

Muskegon Community College is hosting a Master Dance Class Hip Hop Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 2:30-5:15 p.m. in the MCC Dance Studio, Room 262.

Professional Dance Instructors Markus Shields and Yessy Gomez will be offering the classes for intermediate and advanced dancers 16-years of age or older. Registration for the public is $15 for a single class or $25 for both sessions. The cost for MCC students is $12 per session or $20 for the workshop. The event is being hosted by MCC’s Muskegon Dance Company.

Shields began dancing when he was 17 and his choreography has been featured on “So You Think You Can Dance?” He has choreographed nationally prized pieces for a number of Midwestern colleges and high schools. He has crafted pieces for competitions, festivals, ceremonies, plays, parties, and in genres ranging from tribal to lyrical to musical theatre. His favorite setting and style is in the hip-hop master class.

Gomez, a dance instructor, choreographer and director based out of Grand Rapids, has been teaching and coaching for 15 years. She has taught in Michigan, Ohio, Florida, and on the East Coast. She has gathered a great deal of wisdom, knowledge and culture from her training and experiences and  inspires dancers throughout the world through her teaching, story, motivation, and faith.
