MCC’s Biggest Event Today

Students, community members, and other friends of MCC are encouraged to attend the college’s most important event of the year. In recognition of its 1926 founding, Muskegon Community College will host its second annual Founder’s Day, a Roaring Twenties-style event, at The Lake House in downtown Muskegon on Thursday, September 20, 2012.

From 6-8:30 p.m., attendees will experience live jazz, fabulous hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, candy girls, flappers and a host of 1920s characters. MCC President Dale K. Nesbary, Ph.D., will deliver a brief State of the College address at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets to this fun evening are available through Wednesday at $19.26 per person. They can be purchased online at www/muskegoncc.edu/founder or by phone using a credit card at (231) 777-0571. While Founder’s Day guests are invited to dress in 1920s-era clothing, business casual is also welcome.

Proceeds from Founder’s Day will support much-needed facility improvements on campus.  In addition to bricks and mortar, new facilities require furniture, equipment, and other supplies. We are committed to providing the state-of-the-art educational facilities needed to meet student and community needs.

“As Muskegon’s first college, we owe a great deal to our visionary founders who understood the intrinsic value of this college to the intellectual, cultural and economic life of Muskegon County and to the region as a whole,” said President Nesbary.

“Founder’s Day is an excellent way to acknowledge those who made MCC of today possible – founders, faculty, staff, community members, and, most importantly, the students, both past and present, who remain the lifeblood of this institution of higher learning and who represent the future of Muskegon County and West Michigan.”

The Founder’s Day celebration is made possible by “Putting on the Ritz” partners: Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University, Hines Corporation, Mercy Health Partners and Michigan Office Solutions.  Additional support is provided by: Barnes & Noble College Bookstore, Charter Communications, Custom Service Printers, Inc., Davenport University, EvansPortenga Attorneys at Law, Holland Litho Printing Service, KCI, PNC Bank, Quality Tool and Stamping, Shoreline Inn and Conference Center, and Western Michigan University.
