Thanks to the generosity of Reach for the Stars campaign donors, the stunning IMAX-like Carr Fles Planetarium officially reopened to the public on Sept. 11.
Visitors now get to experience the breathtaking, state-of-the-art shows, starting with “Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity,” a 35-minute presentation narrated by actor Liam Neeson. Seating is limited so please call (231) 777-0289 for more information and availability.
“Black Holes,” runs at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday nights through Nov. 1. The program takes audience members to the most frightening objects in the universe: the black holes. Visitors will learn about the evolution of stars, the types of stars that produce black holes when they die, and the super-massive black holes in the centers of galaxies. The program will be followed by a brief tour of the current night sky, using the planetarium.
“I think it’s going to blow people’s socks off,” said Planetarium Director Jon Truax to a local reporter in comparing the new planetarium to the archaic 40-year-old system it replaced. “By comparison, this will be jaw-dropping.”
Carr-Fles remains West Michigan’s only free planetarium.
