Muskegon Community College, which had hosted Mayfest for the past 35 years, thanked the community for their support with a new, but similar, event called Community Family Fest on June 4, 2016 on the main MCC campus. Hundreds of families with children participated in the free celebration.
“Community Family Fest is MCC’s opportunity to thank the community for being so supportive over the years,” explained Trynette Lottie-Harps, the dean of community outreach at the college.
The events included bouncy houses, train rides, a picnic with hot dogs and chips, sport clinics by MCC coaches and players, face painting and giveaways. Jayhawk, the MCC mascot was on hand to meet and greet the children during the three-hour event.
“Mayfest was an opportunity for community organizations and clubs and groups to share information. Community Family Fest is more of MCC’s way of thanking the community. You will find a similarity between the two because Community Family Fest, like Mayfest, is a celebration. It’s a community gathering that will showcase Muskegon Community College’s positive impact on the region.”
