The 18th ranked Muskegon Community College Jayhawks won their ninth consecutive game with a victory against rival Grand Rapids Community College by a score of 69-49.
MCC played three quarters of solid basketball and had a 29 point lead to start the fourth quarter. GRCC was able to outscore MCC 20-11 but the Jayhawks were never in jeopardy. Tierra Williams (Muskegon HS) finished with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals to lead the team. Elysia Mattos (Reeths-Puffer HS) added 12 points and 6 assists, Iyana Brown (Fruitport HS) had 11 points, 4 boards, 4 steals and 3 blocks and Sam Taylor (Cedar Springs HS) finished with 9 points.
“It is always tough to play at GRCC, but this team responded really well and they were focused-in on the task at hand,” said Head Coach Amanda Parker. “They played really well for 3 quarters, with a minor letdown in the 4th. However, it was awesome to see everyone contribute to this good road win”.
The Jayhawks are now 9-1 and 16-5 overall. They play host to Kellogg Community College on Saturday, 2/10 with a 1:00 pm tip off.
