Parental Participation

Muskegon Community College TRiO Upward Bound Program

Parents are a key element in the academic progress and success of their student and, as such, are expected to work closely with the Upward Bound staff to promote their students’ academic/cultural success. The parents will help to plan and carry out volunteer and community service projects, attend program meetings when scheduled, and provide support for events and activities to promote the students’ success. Any parent who desires will have the opportunity to participate in the College Success Seminar course offered by Muskegon Community College. This is a two-credit class to develop and reinforce the skills, abilities, and behaviors that promote academic and personal success. This class is provided at no cost to the parents with the goal of helping them to understand the college environment that their student is preparing to enter, and to encourage the parents to continue to pursue higher education as well.
