Established to help students realize their full educational potential at MCC, the College Success Center has three disciplines, which offer credit courses in writing, math and reading/study skills. The Center also offers a College Success Seminar course and operates a Writing Center. All of these educational resources are intended to help MCC students improve their study habits as well as their skills in math, reading and writing.
College Success Seminar (CSS)
CSS 100 is required for students testing into two or more developmental classes. It is recommended for ALL students during their first semester at MCC. This course provides students with an overview of everything needed to achieve academic and personal success. Topics include note taking, study skills, reading and remembering, critical thinking, library skills, career exploration, stress management, relationships, and winning attitudes.
The College Success Center offers several math courses for students in need of a review of basic math skills. These courses prepare students for further math coursework, address math study skills, and how to combat math anxiety.
Improving key reading skills will put students on the path to academic success. Reading rate can be increased along with comprehension and vocabulary.
Good writing is key to college success. Students who enroll in College Success Center writing courses will improve writing skills. Areas of study include the writing process, sentence and paragraph structure, and grammar conventions.
MCC’s Writing Center offers a non-threatening atmosphere where students can discuss their writing in all stages of the writing process. English instructors can assist with basic grammar questions, essay development, citing format, research techniques, and other writing concerns. Take advantage of this FREE service. Hours are posted on this website and on bulletin boards around campus.
